Real-Time Continuous AECG Monitoring

In recent years, the advent of Real-Time ‘Continuous’ AECG monitoring has emerged to be the a new standard for extended ambulatory cardiac (AECG) monitoring. Real-time continuous AECG is far beyond the scope & clinical utility compared to traditional long term cardiac event monitoring or extended continuous Holter monitoring. Today’s real-time continuous monitoring combines the clinical benefits of extended continuous Holter monitoring with the (near) real-time capture and alerts of Mobile Cardiac Telemetry.

Much like traditional loop event monitoring, most mobile cardiac telemetry (MCT) technologies do not record, analyze or report continuous ECG data. Most MCT technologies only capture what is indicated as a symptom by the patient or with an ‘auto-detect’ feature in the device.  This presents a series drawback in that there is no method to go back & interrogate the full data to ensure that nothing significant was missed.

The introduction of extended Holter monitoring partially solved this problem because it reports all of the ‘continuous’ data that is recorded by the device.  However, you are required to wait until the study is complete (7-14 days+) before the data can be accessed. The abnormal ECG is NOT captured in real-time like today’s real-time continuous AECG technology.

ReelCardio understands the strengths & weaknesses of long term continuous Holter and most MCT technologies in the market today. So what is the solution?

The Solution: ReelECG

ReelCardio has taken long term continuous AECG monitoring to the next level with their unique real-time, continuous, monitoring technology called ReelECG. ReelECG is most often used for Mobile Cardiac Telemetry (MCT). because ReelECG combines the benefits of long term continuous AECG monitoring (extended Holter) with the newest technology to provide the ECG laboratory, the physician as well as the patient as events occur in (near) real-time.

With such simple, convenient & comfortable wearable cardiac monitoring technology, clinicians now trust ReelECG to leverage the newest ‘real-time’ technology in Long Term Continuous AECG monitoring.

Real-time continuous AECG with the ReelECG is making the extended monitoring period more comfortable & more tolerable for patients while increasing the diagnostic yield compared to any other form of AECG monitoring. These advancements in application with a peel & stick patch improves signal quality (superior ECG tracings) while simultaneously improving patient compliance.

Although we are currently experiencing a major shift in studies ordered by physicians, Holter monitoring  remains the most commonly ordered AECG monitoring study to evaluate patients with palpitations & other transient symptomatic arrhythmias. However, it has been proven that traditional 24-hour Holter monitoring is reports a mere diagnostic yield of only 15% to 39%. In other words, 61% – 85% of traditional 24-hour monitoring remain inconclusive due to the limitation of the total duration of the study. With this proving to be more and more prevalent, clinicians now often turn towards ordering newer, more comfortable, wearable real-time continuous AECG monitoring studies.

Even though there are other forms of extended monitoring can increase diagnostic yield over traditional 24-hour Holter monitoring, these other forms of extended monitoring are exponentially more expensive, inconvenient & more complicated to use compared to ReelECG technology. The old fashioned, bulky design often limits the patients’ activities & duration which ultimately affects the integrity of the study & diagnosis. These complicated monitors with messy lead wires, large size & weight have proven to affect the completion of these extended studies. In fact, it is estimated that approximately 1 in 4 symptomatic patients are unable to activate their long-term monitor due to the cumbersome / complicated nature of the process.

With the advent of wearable AECG technology, Real-Time, Long Term Wearable Continuous AECG monitoring is moving to the forefront of AECG monitoring. Clinicians are now becoming accustomed to 3x – 30x times more ECG data and expect the increased patient compliance provided by a real-time long term continuous wearable AECG patch monitor like the ReelPatch+ Plus (also known as the ReelCardio V-Patch.

Mobile Cardiac Telemetry (MCT) – Long Term Continuous ‘Real-Time’ AECG Monitoring

For the last few years, the market has become accustomed to long term wearable AECG technology due to the convenience for staff, patients & the increase in diagnostic quality from extended monitoring periods. Now, ReelCardio has taken the long term continuous AECG monitoring to the next level with new technology that provides analysis in (near) real-time. This is the new age of real-time, wearable AECG technology (Mobile Cardiac Telemetry or MCT) is called the ReelECG ReelPatch+ Plus

Candidates for Long Term Continuous AECG Monitoring:

  • Patients with transient or intermittent symptoms
  • Patient with known or suspected abnormal arrhythmias
  • Patient monitoring post stroke
  • Monitoring a patient post PCI or bypass surgery
  • Post-ablation procedure evaluation
  • Monitoring for early detection & management of Atrial Fibrillation
  • Monitoring a patient when prior EKG or 24-hour Holter study is inconclusive

Benefits of Real-Time, Continuous ReelECG Monitoring:

  • 3- 30 times more ECG data -> Increased Diagnostic Yield compared to Holter
  • Record & Review of every beat increases detection of asymptomatic cardiac events
  • Real-time alerts for significant events
  • Reduction of ECG artifact (interference) leads to improved arrhythmia detection
  • Improve the quality & quantity of data presented to the physician
  • Decrease the need for repeat or additional studies
  • Improve the patient experience with small, light-weight, wearable design
  • Easy to apply for facility staff
  • Small, sleek, virtually unnoticeable design
